Welcome to Tales of a Round Rock Dad!

Welcome to Tales of a Round Rock Dad!

I am very excited to begin this new writing project to chronicle my experiences as a Stay at Home Dad (SAHD). I had never really planned on being SAHD when Avery was born, but I am very glad that I am one now knowing it is the best thing for my family.  My wife Michelle and I found ourselves house hunting in and around North Austin in an attempt to find a house that better fit our growing family's needs. The main goal was to reduce Michelle's commute which had grown to nearly 90 minutes each way to and from South Austin since we had to relocate Avery to a new daycare.

Looking at house after house trying to find the perfect fit we came to the realization that should we be fortunate enough to have a second child (which is our goal) we would not be able to afford both this new house and the nearly doubled cost of daycare. We crunched some numbers and came to the conclusion that we would find ourselves in a great position if we were strategic in our house hunt and were able to find a suitable house cheap enough to reduce our monthly expenses enough to allow me to leave my management position with Whole Foods (as Team Leader running the Specialty Department including Beer, Wine, Cheese, Beer Bar & Coffee Bar) at the South Austin Arbor Trails store. I enjoyed my time at Whole Foods, but having a front row seat seeing my little grow up was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.

We moved to Round Rock last September and have found it to be a great place to raise a family. We do miss many things about living in Austin, but have been very surprised with the high quality of life in Round Rock. We have really enjoyed many of the town's abundant parks, shopping and its beurgoning restaurant scene. With this blog I am hoping to share some of my experiences spending my days with Avery including reviews of local Round Rock area establishments and places that I visit and things that I do with my daughter.
